Fashion editorial in Reverie magazine

Back in January I shot fashion editorial which is now published in Reverie magazine. We shot it at 19th century historical house in Aurora just north of Toronto.

When I first visited the place, the house looked pretty small to me so I used only SB-600 speedlites and reflectors for this photoshoot. Since place is so small I easily used pop-up flash in commander mode on my D700. Nothing beats ability to control flash power right from the camera. As usual I employed a different lighting setup  for each photo.

Here I used two lights, umbrella on the right high and CTOd softbox on the left.

Just silver reflector here to reveal details in the shadows.

Again, just the reflector.

This was very dark hallway, ambient was mostly here so I needed to light up interior and the model with just two lights that I had with me. I placed bare CTOd flash almost at the back wall. For the key light a small softbox 24×24 was placed camera left and high angled down. After I saw that lights were place properly it was just matter of balancing two of them.

As sun was going going closer to the ground, it created amazing window light which I used as a key in this photo. To fill the shadows I used flash with umbrella, again balancing these two light sources.

Dole Salads ad campaign

Couple of months ago I shot some stills for Dole Food Company ad campaign. The campaign is now out and available online. I had a chance to work with amazing Candice Olson, we shot stills and video; it was very productive day and client was happy with end results.

The land where time stands still

This was exactly my thought after visiting Havana, Cuba last week. Everywhere you look you see 50s, 60s and 70s. The cars, buildings, roads, everything reminded me my childhood and talk on TV how people of Cuba building communism in western hemisphere. It seems that country now entered the stage where Russia was in early 90s, with economic laws relaxed and people trying to create small businesses to support their living.

Cover and 8 pages in W25 magazine

Last summer we’ve had a fantastic photoshoot at Guildwood Inn in Scarborough. As it was closer to the fall I didn’t submit this editorial at the time but end of this winter was just the time to do so and I sent it to W25. Dresses were provided by Morph Clothing and hand made unique jewellery by Samantha Nemiroff.

Models: Candice Lillian Keast (cover), Alena Gapanovich, Ilinca Ignatenco
Makeup: Delia Lupan

Cooking For Your Cub

A few months ago I had a chance to work with Mary Jo Eustace and fine folks from Avid Life Media on Mary Jo’s new cookbook Cooking For Your Cub which is now available on Amazon. New batch of books should be available some time in April, meanwhile check the images here.

All photography was done in one day; really amazing teamwork there to prepare models, food, props and location; and don’t stop until all items on our shot list were checked.

Price of individualism

Are you individualist or you prefer to stick with the masses? What do you gain and what do you lose by joining either side? I’ve had this idea for a small personal photo project floating in my head for quite some time now but nothing concrete was there until several days ago. While doing some grocery shopping I picked up few items that became my subjects in this series.

New business cards

… Just arrived from Juke Box Print. Design and color palette matching the website. Cards are made of 24pt stock, they are thicker than what you would normally find at most of printers; and I can stick only 5 of them into my wallet without ripping it apart. Overall quality is good, colors are matching those in original design files.

Very delicious and simple to make snack. Sliced tomatoes and bocconcini, basil, dill and virgin olive oil. You might also add some balsamic vinegar. Yumm!

St. Vladimir said …

“Drinking is the joy of the Russes. We cannot exist without that pleasure”. That was just before Russia accepted Christianity as official religion. Everybody has their own reasons.
